Thesis & Introduction: The Battle of Somme first started in July 9, 1916 – November 18, 1916. The battle was a decisive breakthrough and it became indiscriminate slaughter. The British planed to fight a 15 mile front. They as well planned the assault and the "week-long bombardment" gave the Germans clear warning to them. Many British had 60,000 casualties, and 20,000 were dead, French had 195,000 dead, and Germans had over 650,00 dead.British had much success.
Conclusion: Some of the important details of the battle of Somme where that it was also known as the Somme offensive. It also was one of the largest battles of the first World Way. Which was fought between July 1 and November 1, 1918 near the Somme River in France. Since the Somme campaign in 1916 was the first great of World War 1 for the British. On August 31, 1916 a young U.S citizen with British forces was killed becoming the first American country of World War 1. How the War increase the intensity and destruction of the war was how this war was one of the largest battles of the World War.
